Today, Labor Day, is the unofficial end of summer. I hope yours was great. Ours was busy, and looks to be busier still this fall as we are listing a number of great properties and preparing for your 8th Annual Client Appreciation Pumpkin GiveAway! 

Of course, You Are Invited on Saturday, October 5, 2019 from 9:30 AM - 12:30 AM...join us for a cup of cider, an apple cider donut and a pumpkin. 

We will also be keeping our tradition of taking family photos.

There’s a famous television show from the 50’s and 60’s called Dragnet. It centers on the adventures of a no-nonsense cop who famously tells witnesses to give him, “Just the facts, ma’am. Just the facts.”

He did that because facts were hard to get, yet very important to his job.

These days, we live in a sea of information. “Google” just about any topic and you’ll get thousands of search results. There’s no shortage of information. But, it can still be difficult to get to the facts.

Take real estate, for example. There’s a lot of news available about what’s happening in the national real estate market, current overall housing prices, the best time to make a move, and so forth.

It can all be overwhelming. But, which reports can you rely on?

I love May! Everything is blooming and summer is just around the corner. 

Sometimes it's hard to appreciate the beauty because May is such a busy month. There are graduations, weddings, Mother's Day gatherings and Memorial Day weekend. Who has time to breath? 

I hope you will have a few minutes to breath and enjoy the beauty all around at this time of year. 

In the middle of all the spring fun, many people are buying and selling homes at a fever pitch. Others are working feverishly to prepare their homes for the market. The time is now for all kinds of plans, real estate and otherwise. 

Our team had a great month in April, and there is no sign of the action letting up. If you or anyone you know are looking for top notch real estate service, give us a call. We are ready to help.

Happy Spring!! It's become my tradition to include a photo of Longwood Gardens' Blue Poppies in my April newsletter. These flowers are featured at Longwood for a tiny window of time and I love that time. For only about 2 or 3 weeks in March you will find these flowers on display, and most mornings the Himalayan beauties are surrounded by a gaggle of "paparazzi" with cameras poised. Some mornings I'm among them.

What makes the blue poppies so popular? Of course it's the stunning blue color, but it is also their rarity. With only a couple weeks to see them, flower lovers and photographers can't be contained; they clamber for an opportunity to ogle. 

This clambering for something rare brings me to the state of our real estate market. In most niches we are experiencing an extreme low inventory. Over the past couple of weeks, our team has sold each of our new listings in 3 days or fewer. In some cases we are seeing multiple offers with prices being bid up to well over the asking price. 

I'm proud of the great job we are doing coaching our clients in preparing their homes for sale and positioning for maximum exposure. We feel careful preparation and an intentional strategy is crucial in creating a quick sale and possible multiple offers.

Of course, in this tight market, we'd love to help more clients get their homes on the market and under contract quickly. Do you know someone we can help? Please have them reach out to me, or better yet, call me with their contact info.

Good morning & happy March!! The photo I'm sharing above was taken at sunrise a few weeks ago at Bombay Hook Wildlife Refuge in Smyrna Delaware. Although the photo suggests warmth and a hint of spring, it was frigid that morning. 

This picture is a reminder that appearances can be deceiving. Our team always keeps that in mind when our buyers are searching for a new home on-line. There are a plethora of resources for consumers to search for homes, and sometimes buyers are making all their home selections based on posted photos without seeking a Realtor's input or advice. It behooves us as agents to remind buyers that some homes are more photogenic than others. And some photographers are better than others. I generally suggest that our buyer clients tour a range of homes that have features they are seeking, even if the photos aren't beautiful. Sometimes there are happy surprises, because nothing takes the place of seeing a house in person. 

That being said, it is always our team's goal to present every one of our listings in its best light. We are big advocates of home staging, and we provide our sellers a room by room detail on prepping the home for the market. For our listings, our goal is to have our listings on every prospective buyers list of "must see" homes. 

Whether buying or selling, our clients get our professional advice and support. Our goal is to "walk" every client home to a happy home purchase or sale.

Happy Super Bowl Weekend! I've been saying for years that the Super Bowl is the marker that starts the spring real estate market. As I've been saying for a while, listings are in short supply and there are buyers waiting for great homes to come on the market. My team has had great success selling the majority of our listings quickly. The keys to our success are preparation and teamwork.

As you know, we have built our business on repeat business and referrals. We strive every day to provide "Walking You Home..." service. That service doesn’t end when the transaction is complete. It continues throughout the months and years in between your moves.

In fact, that’s one of the main reasons I keep in touch with you with these informative updates.

Happy Holidays 2018

Like most people, I spend time reflecting at the end of each year. This year is no different and over the past few weeks I’ve reflected on both personal and professional highlights of 2018.  

Last Sunday, my mother hosted our family holiday celebration, and it was one of my highlights of 2018. We are a pretty big group, and our gatherings are a joy to me. I love catching up, reminiscing and sharing all those laughs. In her toast before dinner my mom expressed her gratitude for being together and enjoying each other’s company. Mom said her father, my grandfather, used to talk about embracing a concept he called “instant nostalgia;” he advised recognizing and basking in the delight of special moments while they are happening, rather than reminiscing about them later.  I love my grandfather’s advice, which today we’d call “being present” or “mindfulness” and I consider myself a dedicated practitioner of “instant nostalgia”.  

Another of my most cherished moments of “instant nostalgia” in 2018 was hearing Michelle Obama on her “Becoming” book tour at the Wells Fargo Center. The theme of the talk is expressed in this quote:

“What do you want to be when you grow up? As if growing up is finite. As if at some point you become something and that’s the end.” Michelle Obama

As Mrs. Obama spoke those words, I looked over at my mother, who was smiling and nodding in agreement. Going on 90, my mom has never stopped “becoming”; I’m inspired by her enthusiasm for new experience, new people and learning new things.  Just joining 15,000 enthusiastic fans for a stadium event is too much for many of my mom’s contemporaries. But she was game for the adventure and found inspiration and joy in sharing the experience with her daughters and daughter-in-law. We all loved the night.

Professionally I’ve savored special moments with clients with a sense of “instant nostalgia”.  Many of my clients this year made major life changes. Knowing that I helped make a challenging time a little easier is gratifying. The friendships borne of those business relationships are just as important; those bonds are what I love what I do.

My mom’s reminder to enjoy life in the moment is one I’ll continue to embrace. “Instant nostalgia” may be my catch phrase for 2019.

As I continue my “becoming”, I promise to share more of my photos in 2019. In the meantime, I’m sending warm wishes for a Wonderful Holiday Season and a Happy New Year.

Welcome to the new year. I hope 2019 is a wonderful year for you and your family.

I’m not sure what your plans are for the coming months. Chances are, you will need to speak to an expert in a specific field at some point during the year. For example, you might ask a gardening expert some questions later this spring, get some recommendations from a trusted investment advisor, or ask your doctor an important health question.

It makes sense to take advantage of expertise when you need it.

Traditionally, this is the month people write down their hopes, dreams, ambitions and goals for the new year - or, at the very least, they think about them.

What are some of your hopes and dreams for the coming months? Do any of them have to do with your home?

As you know, I do a lot more than help my clients buy and sell homes. In fact, an important part of my job is to ensure that you continue to be happy with your home and that it continues to meet your changing needs.

Happy Fall! We finally have beautiful fall colors and some brisk temperatures.  Yay!

Our Client Appreciation Pumpkin Give Away early in October was our best ever. Attendance was so great that we ran out of apple cider donuts and parking this year, so we have made plans to increase the donut inventory and situate in a way that makes parking a little easier. A number of people mentioned "this is our favorite fall event". That was music to my ears. For all who attended, thank you for coming. If you didn't join us this year, please plan to come next year.

We also have been enjoying a busy fall selling season, with most niches of the market selling briskly. We continue to experience a shortage of listings. If you or a friend, family member or co-worker is considering selling a home, please let us help them. We would be honored to receive your referral.
